The Haferboden is the historic granary at Gut Waitzrodt — set within the Reinhardswald nature park, about 15 kilometres north of Kassel. Timber framework, wooden floorboards and oak beams, grown over two centuries, carried by a family that lives here.
Anyone who comes to the estate notices it quickly: no one has to convince anyone here. The place speaks for itself.

The Haferboden offers around 144 m² of indoor space with a historic hall, a foyer with bar and counter, and room for reception, buffet and flexible seating. In addition, there is a covered terrace facing the courtyard and a terrace with a far-reaching view over the fields.
The venue works best for around 55 to 80 seated guests. With the foyer and a flexible layout, up to 120 guests are possible depending on the event; with an event marquee the capacity can be expanded further.

One estate, many stories.
The manor house is dated to the year 1802. Since 1978, Gut Waitzrodt has been closely connected with horses. Over the decades, a former livery yard has grown into a versatile estate — with a riding facility, a riding school, therapy services and spaces for special events.
Across around 14 hectares of total grounds — with pastures, woodland, working land and old trees — Gut Waitzrodt brings together equestrian life, therapy services and a grown farm community. The Haferboden opens this special setting for weddings, private celebrations and corporate events: historic, close to nature and personally run by the Sommer family.

A country table with what the season offers — pumpkin in autumn, asparagus in spring, berries in summer. Our little farm shop for your own catering, or choose the caterer of your choice.

What we are typically asked.
How many guests fit into the Haferboden?
The hall seats 55 to 80 guests, depending on the layout. With the foyer and flexible seating, up to 120 guests are possible. For larger events, an event marquee can additionally be set up on the estate.
What is included in the rental?
The hall with foyer and terrace, flexible seating, crockery and cutlery, tablecloths and napkins, lighting, a music system, a projector installation, a service and washing-up kitchen, free Wi-Fi and parking. Catering is your choice; your own caterer is possible.
Are there options to stay overnight?
At Gut Waitzrodt there are holiday apartments that can be enquired about separately, subject to availability. In addition, camping on the estate grounds is possible by arrangement — popular with wedding guests who would like to stay longer.
How far in advance should you book?
Dates should be enquired about as early as possible, especially for weekends in the wedding season (May to September). We review short-notice enquiries subject to availability.
What does the rental cost?
Concrete amounts are determined in the personal offer — tailored to occasion, number of guests, season and choice of modules. For initial orientation:
- Weekend wedding: from €1,100, complete in your own organisation
- Private celebration: from €950, complete in your own organisation
- Conference day for companies: from €830, complete in your own organisation, up to 30 people
Catering, floristry, music and other external services are billed separately — on request we coordinate them for you.

Can we visit the estate before booking?
Of course. We warmly recommend a visit — the atmosphere of the Haferboden and the estate grounds is best experienced on site. We arrange an appointment by mutual agreement.
